The Glass Experience and The "Date Night": Create an ornament ($35), a flower ($40), or a paperweight ($40) in this introductory session. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes to make a piece. You choose your colors and we give you hand in the creation process. This is a fun and unique outing for a small group or a couple giving you a unique keepsake. What to Expect: The glass experience takes about 10-15 minutes per ornament, flower or paperweight. You will choose two colors to use for the piece, there are usually 12 colors to pick from. For the ornament, the instructor will gather the glass out of the furnace onto a blowpipe. The participant will roll the hot glass on the table called a marver, the instructor gathers a second layer of clear glass on the pipe and the participant will roll into their color, the participant then melts that color in the reheating furnace, turning all the time. The instructor, at the bench, will shape the glass as the participant blows into the blow hose to expand the bubble. The ornament is then knocked off of the blowpipe and a loop is made for hanging. The glass goes into the annealher to cool down, the annealing process takes 12 hours to go from 920 degrees to room temperature. The pieces are ready the next day. The process of making the flower requires rolling in the stem color after the first gather of glass. After the second gather of clear glass the participant pushes into the second color for the flower petals. After melting in the color the participant will pinch around the glass making the petals and the instructor reheats the glass so the participant can pull downward to create the flower stem. The glass is broken off the pipe and goes into the annealher for cooling. For the paperweight color is picked up on the second gather and melted in. The instructor will gather a third gather of clear glass and the participant will shape the glass at the bench using a wooden mold while the instructor turns the pipe. The glass is shaped with a metal block and then the participant will use a set of blades called Jacks to make a line in the glass where it will break free of the pipe. The paperweight then goes into the annealher for cooling as well.
